Sometimes a cover just captures the imagination and this one did for me! Add Kathleen Morgan's name to it and I am hooked :)
As High As The Heavens will be released by Revell in January, 2008.
I limit my historical fiction these days to a few favourite authors ~ Kathleen is one of them :) I will soon get my fix with A Fire Within, releasing in September, 2007.
So my question today is, what appeals to you most with a book cover?
Scenery, people, font, author's name, colour?

dunno really. must be everything. i either like it or i don't. does that help? lol
Beautiful cover--it would definitely make me pick up the book and read the back blurb...and then it's just a short trip to the checkout line :)
As for what appeals most to me in a cover, I'm with aussietigger: all the elements seem to play a part, although a great cover or a favorite author may be equally effective in making my fingers itch to have a look inside. Go artwork department!
Great question!! For me it is scenery, people, colour and author. I am definitely drawn to a book if it is an author I love. Your question got me to thinking about what my favourite cover is and this sent me to my bookshelves. I couldn't decide on just one, so my favourites are.....
Don't keep me in suspense..........
When Crickets Cry by Charles Martin, Not A Sparrow Falls by Linda Nichols and a book I do not even own and have not read (but I love this cover) Happily Ever After by Susan May Warren. I have this book on my 'would like' list simply because the cover grabbed me.
Sorry I ran out of room and had to do my comment in two parts. Pardon my computer challenged self and please don't laugh at me if there is a way to do it. On second thoughts, feel free to have a really good chuckle!!!
Oh and by the way, love the changes to your blog. Especially the books at the top of the page.
Thanks Fi :) Not sure why you couldn't type more - it should let you! Crickets is a good cover as is his new one, Chasing Fireflies. You will love Happily Ever After and the rest of that series. I'll put the hard word on David when Christmas rolls around - LOL!
Other covers I like are Tom Morrisey's Deep Blue, Tamara Leigh's Splitting Harriet and Chuck holton's Allah's Fire for a start!
I think for me it's the color and contrast of the cover, how well a cover lends to the theme of the book, or even sometimes the simplicity of the cover, etc.
I really like the covers of Carol Cox's "A Fair to Remember" series, with their muted tones, and I really like the cover of the book you spotlighted below, "My Hands Came Away Red" - that cover just really catches my eye. Travis Thrasher's "Sky Blue" has a really nice cover on it as well.
Colors and scenery (did I spell that right without spell check :)
This cover is a sure-fire hit!
