Injustice for All by Robin Caroll with giveaways

Synopsis:~

A federal judge lies bleeding on his office floor, betrayed by a most unlikely source—people who helped him bring criminals to justice. Now, why would someone working for the FBI need to disappear after witnessing this crime?

When Remington Wyatt sees her godfather’s murder, she recognizes the killers and knows it’s only a matter of time before they come to silence her. She must do the only thing possible to stay alive . . . run.

FBI agent Rafe Baxter is serious about his career, and solving a cold case involving a federal judge’s death puts him in line for the promotion he so desires. But the case leads him to the small town of Hopewell, Louisiana, where some secrets seem inextricably hidden deep within the bayou.

Injustice for All explores what happens when everything a person believes in is utterly destroyed. Who can you trust?

My take:~

A new suspense series from Robin Caroll is always something to look forward to and Injustice for All begins with a bang.  Suspense and intrigue imprint this novel against a backdrop of corruption and death as Remington struggles to survive.  I enjoyed the characters of Remington and Rafe, although it was Hopewell's Police Commissioner, Hayden Simpson, that stole the show.  While I wondered at his dominance in the story where he isn't wasn't the leading man, his strength of character and faithfulness to his family and friends adds a great deal to the story.  Robin gives her characters plenty of angst in their lives from startling family secrets to deeply held guilt enabling her to weave faith and forgiveness in a realistic way.  Injustice for All will appeal to readers looking for an intriguing story with a smattering of romance.  Needless to say, I'm looking forward to Hayden's story releasing in September, To Write A Wrong.

With thanks to B&H and PR by the Book for my review copy

The last thing he needs is someone blowing the lid off his emotional bucket. But when Riley Baxter storms into his life, struggling to understand why God would let bad things happen to good people, Hayden has no choice but to follow his heart.

Now, Riley and Hayden must work together to uncover the truth of the past . . . before someone shuts Riley up for good.

He buys a farm on the outskirts of the district and pulls away from his community. But when a freak spring snowstorm brings a beautiful Englisher to his farm, what choice does Gideon have but to let her in?

Dallas socialite Avery Ann Hamilton is intrigued by the Amish farmer who pulls her out of the snow and into his austere lifestyle. Poor little rich girl, Avery has just gone through (yet another) bad breakup. Every man she meets only wants her for her father’s money. All she has ever wanted is to be loved for herself. Avery soon discovers the Oklahoma Amish country is the perfect place to hide out and heal her broken heart.

But she finds a peace in those back roads that she’s never felt before. Now her life has purpose and meaning as she connects with God and those around her. And there’s something more as she begins to care for this man who needs both love and forgiveness.

Gideon never wanted to live again much less fall in love, but Avery finds her way into his heart, showing him the beauty of life and God’s greatness. Yet as the feelings between Avery and Gideon grow, can they overcome their dissimilar lifestyles, or will their sheer differences pull them apart?

Twenty-nine-year-old Lisa Newberry can barely make it through the day. Suddenly widowed and a survivor of a near-fatal attack, she is wracked with grief and despair. Then she hears of a medical trial for a tiny brain chip that emits electrical pulses to heal severe depression. At rope’s end, Lisa offers herself as a candidate.

When she receives her letter of acceptance for the trial, Lisa is at first hopeful. But—brain surgery. Can she really go through with that? What if she receives only the placebo?

What if something far worse goes wrong?

Written in the relentless style for which Brandilyn Collins is known, Double Blind is a psychological thriller with mind-bending twists. Lisa faces choices that drive her to the brink, and one wrong move could cost the lives of many.

Like Mitford and Lake Wobegon before that, Bloomfield is a place we could all call home. Here, the residents enjoy a splash fountain in the town square, dine at the “Fancy Schmantsy” on tree-lined Main Street, and dream of reaching the 10,000 population mark -- only 22 more folks to go!

The Bloomfield Garden Club, an all-ages group of lovable oddballs that will stop at nothing to make everything beautiful, maintains this piece of heaven on earth. But even such idyllic places as this have their share of dramatic characters and stories to be told.

Take, for instance, craft store owner Amber Weathersby. She wants to be a member of the garden club but has never received the blessing of a green thumb. Her friend, Stan the mechanic, has helped as much as he can -- even adding a timed sprinkler system to Amber’s garden -- but the results never live up to the club’s expectations.

Her only claim to fame with that gang is her semi-famous garden gnome, Gnorman, who gets to hold the prized trophy each year in the Bloomfield Spring Fling contest’s winning garden.

But this year, instead of being the life of the party, her little star is gnomegnapped, and worse, the club’s irreplaceable trophy has gone missing with him. While Amber is chasing the gnome around town trying to win the trophy, Stan is chasing Amber, trying to win her heart.

Character Spotlight ~ Robin Caroll's Layla Taylor & Maddox Bishop

Layla & Maddox

If you are looking for great romantic suspense with issues that touch our lives today, grab hold of Robin's books including her latest, In The Shadow of Evil.

Enjoy this insight into a contractor and a cop! Over to you, Robin:!

Brief physical description

Layla Taylor: Dirty blond, curly, shoulder-length hair with green eyes and sports a muscular build.

Maddox Bishop: Black, short hair with bright, bright blue eyes, 6'1" and sporting a physically muscular build

Actor/famous person

For Layla, think Kyra Sedgewick and for Maddox, think Rob Estes

Strengths and weaknesses

Layla: outgoing personality....loyal

Maddox: loveable rogue

Quirk (if any)

Both Layla and Maddox have specific phrases that are their quirks

Your inspiration for the character

I love spunky female protagonists who are working in a male-dominated profession. Thus was my inspiration for Layla.

Background to the story

A romantic suspense in south Louisiana in which the modern day issue of building rebound scamming is exposed, leading a homicide detective to lose his heart to a building contractor.

Thanks Robin ~ good to have you back again for a visit!

Review of In the Shadow of Evil by Robin Caroll with giveaways

Synopsis:~

Just outside of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Detective Sergeant Maddox Bishop works in the Criminal Investigative Department, Homicide Division. When the dead body of a building inspector is found in a burnt "Homes of Hope" house, Maddox gets the case. The trail of evidence will lead him into exposing one of the biggest scams of modern day.

Layla Taylor is a contractor in Calcasieu parish, who loves God, her family, and what she does. When Detective Bishop's investigation leads him to her sister's drug-rehab retreat, every defense in her rises to the surface. To prove her sister's business isn't involved with anything illegal or immoral, she joins forces with the man who is against everything she believes in.

My take:~

As I have come to expect from Robin Caroll, her latest romantic suspense combines tragedy, drama and intrigue with sparkling attraction and spiritual depth. Drawing on current events as she has so ably done in Deliver Us From Evil and Fear No Evil, Robin sets this story against a backdrop of economic ruin and natural destruction in hurricane ravaged Louisiana. Maddox Bishop and Layla Taylor are an interesting pair, from their career choices to the dysfunction induced by tragedy each of their families have experienced. In the Shadow of Evil is another feather in Robin's literary cap and is the perfect way to spend an evening by the bayou without leaving the comforts of home!

Character Spotlight ~ Robin Caroll's Lincoln Vailes & Jade Laurent

Lincoln & Jade

Robin Caroll is back with Lincoln Vailes, first introduced in Deliver Us From Evil, in a new town with a new career. Robin's romantic suspense is fast paced and appealing.

Enjoy this insight into Lincoln & Jade. Over to you, Robin:~

Brief physical description

Hero Lincoln Vailes is an alpha-male all around. Dark hair and looks like he belongs on the cover of GQ!

Jade Laurent is young, cheeky, and looks Hispanic in origin. Long, dark hair with cascading waves.

Actor/famous person

Hmmm..this one is hard. I try not to think of any “real” person to create my character after.

Rel: Seeing Robin couldn't choose, I did! Jesse Metcalfe for Lincoln and Roselyn Sanchez for Jade. What do you think?

Strengths and weaknesses

Strengths: For Lincoln, his strength is his compassion for others and his need to take care of them. For Jade, her strength is being a survivor, despite a hard childhood.

Weaknesses: Lincoln’s is definitely his human reaction to his father’s illness. Jade’s is her soft spot for women and children.

Quirk (if any)

Jade’s is that she rocks and hums when nervous or upset.

Your inspiration for the character

Lincoln was featured in DELIVER US FROM EVIL, and I fashioned a lot of his personality after my own brother. Jade came from a girl I knew briefly in college.

Background to the story

After hurting Lincoln in DELIVER US FROM EVIL, I knew I had to give his story light and bring about a happy ending for him. After meeting a couple of former gang members who’d given their lives to Jesus in prison, and now were working to lead other gang members out of the life of crime and into salvation, I knew exactly what my social issue in FEAR NO EVIL would be.

Robin ~ always a pleasure to have you and your characters visit! Book me in for In the Shadow of Evil next year :)

On Thursday, the spotlight shines on Bodie & Brock Thoene's Loralei Bittick and Eben Golah from the newly released The Gathering Storm.

Fear No Evil by Robin Caroll with giveaways

Synopsis:~

With his father in a nursing home and his mother needing support, former Great Smoky Mountains park ranger Lincoln Vailes moves to the bayou town of Eternal Springs, Louisiana, to become a police officer.

Recent college graduate and eager social worker Jade Laurent has also moved there to try and right the wrongs of an abusive past. But someone is running her car off the road and pointing guns in her direction.

As Lincoln investigates her case, he uncovers ties to big-city gang warfare up north that appears to be making its evil way down south.

My take:~

Robin Caroll solidifies her reputation as a writer of stellar romantic suspense with Fear No Evil, an intriguing tale of the inescapable tentacles of gang warfare and those who stand courageously in the face of violence. Displaying her versatility by using different pacing to Deliver Us From Evil, with equally satisfying results, Robin reveals the damage wrought by past trauma experienced by Lincoln and Jade and their resulting life choices. Complex characterisation, palpable attraction and heart pounding action remain hallmarks of Robin's writing and make Fear No Evil as an essential addition to your bookshelves. Write faster, Robin!

Character Spotlight ~ Robin Caroll's Brannon Callahan & Roark Holland

Today the spotlight shines on.........................Brannon Callahan & Roark Holland

Robin Caroll's romantic suspense novel, Deliver Us From Evil is one of my favourite reads this year, one reason being her female lead character SAR pilot, Brannon Callahan! I've been hanging out to bring you this spotlight ~ enjoy!

Over to you, Robin:~

Brief physical description

Brannon Callahan's most distinguishing feature are her eyes--they're mismatched. One blue, one green. Striking. Stunning. And very expressive.

Roark Holland is a dream--defining tall, dark and handsome. Yet, he has a fresh scar on his face, which bodes the question--What happened to him?

Actor/famous person

Brannon and Roark came to me after the storyline stuck in me, so I wrote the book without a “physical guide” to the characters.

Brannon and Roark revealed themselves to me in such a unique way, I know exactly how they look in my mind, but to try and describe doesn't do them justice.

Rel: I'm taking a stab. How about a more serious Debra Messing?!

Strengths and weaknesses

Brannon's strengths really spoke to me when writing her. She's founded in faith, but that didn't come easily for her. No, she's suffered great loss, but it made her stronger, more determined to make a difference in life. And she has.

Roark's an alpha male hero, all the way, yet he's allowed his flaws--his weaknesses--to hold him back. He's sensitive and has such a heart, but has all this past baggage that has paralysed his forward progress.

Introducing Brannon and Roark to one another was quite the adventure. They're perfect for one another in that they see past the outward projection of the other, seeing into their trueness. And they should have a happily ever after…if they'll stop bickering long enough. lol

Rel:~ Colombian actor Rafael Novoa, although he is looking a little more scruffy than I imagine Mr US Marshal Roark might be comfortable with ;-) I was tempted to put up a pic of my hubby but he might not have forgiven me - hehehe!

Quirk (if any)

All people have quirks (even if they aren't apparent to the outside observer) and Brannon and Roark are VERY much people. At least in my mind. LOL An example is Brannon's chewing on the side of her nail when she's upset, frustrated, or worried.

As for Roark's and Brannon's other quirks, you'll have to read the book and get to know them to find their quirks, just as you uncover people's quirks in real life as you get to know them.

Your inspiration for the character

The characters didn't grab me first…the storyline did. I watched a special on child trafficking that wouldn't let me go. I tried to turn off the program because it was so offensive to me, yet I couldn't. Months later, the story still held me in its grip. So the plot came before the characters…but once I had my plot, I knew I had to find strong, sensitive and alive characters to tell the story. Brannon came to me first--and her name was lent to me by my grandmother. Roark took a little longer to reveal himself to me. But once he did--oh, man…I had to hold onto my hat.

Background to the story

Once the issue of the story had me, I began to do research. And found myself sick. That human trafficking, specifically children, occurs so frequently in this day and time appalled me. I hope that the book makes readers aware of the situation and shows that even one person can make a difference.

Way to go, Robin! I love your characters...bring on Lincoln's story!! Thanks for sharing with us :)
