CFBA Blog Tour of A Cousin's Promise by Wanda Brunstetter & Tracy's Take

This week, the

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

is introducing

A Cousin's Promise

Barbour Books (March 1, 2009)

by

Wanda Brunstetter

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Wanda enjoys writing about the Amish because they live a peaceful, simple life─something she says we all need in this day and age.

Using the knowledge her Amish friends have shared with her, Wanda has also produced several children’s titles in the Rachel Yoder─Always Trouble Somewhere series, an Amish cookbook, and a devotional collection entitled The Simpler Life, which was released in July 2008 and celebrates the virtues of the Amish lifestyle. Wanda and her husband are members of the fellowship of Christian Magicians.

Wanda is also a member of the North American Association of ventriloquists, American Christian Fiction Writers, and the Northwest Christian Writers Association. She lives in Washington State, where her husband pastors, but takes every opportunity to visit Amish settlements across the country.

Other books by Wanda are A Sister's Test, A Sister's Hope, and A Sister's Secret

ABOUT THE BOOK

Wayne Lambright who, crippled after a tragic accident, feels himself unworthy of her love; and Jake Beechy who, after having abandoned her to explore the English world, returns to renew their courtship.

Willkumm to the lush and lavish Amish country where Wanda Brunstetter's new romantic series, Indiana Cousins, begins with A Cousin's Promise. Loraine Miller finds herself torn between the love of two good men.

When a horrific accident cripples Wayne Lambright, he finds it difficult enough to take care of himself, much less Loraine Miller, his future bride. Will he sacrifice his happiness to give her a better life?

Having already been jilted once, Loraine is terrified of yet another rejection. But does she love Wayne enough to marry him, for better or worse? When her old boyfriend Jake Beechy returns from exploring the English world, he hopes Loraine will give him another chance.

How will God work to give Loraine the desires of her heart? To which man will she pledge her love and loyalty - for better or worse, until death they do part?

If you would like to read the first chapter of A Cousin's Promise, go HERE

Tracy's Take

What is it about?

Loraine Miller is excited about her trip to Hershey Park on Labour Day weekend with her fiancé, Wayne, and six of her cousins. When their van is involved in an accident, their lives are turned upside down and are changed forever.

Wayne Lambright struggles with his injuries and resulting disability and decides to break off his engagement to Loraine so that she can pursue a life with someone more able to support her in marriage. Can he really set aside his true feelings for Loraine and watch her move on with her life with her ex-beau Jake?

What I thought:

‘A Cousin’s Promise’ is truly vintage Wanda E Brunstetter. Wanda explores the timeless themes of forgiveness and loving our neighbours through Loraine’s selfless and constant care of Wayne’s family through a difficult time, despite his mother’s griping and grousing at her any moment she can. It is through Loraine’s consistency that Ada is finally able to set aside her disapproval and truly accept Loraine and her pure intentions.

Wanda ably reminds the reader through very realistic scenarios, that God’s ways are above our own and that we should seek Him first, rather than trying to do things in our own strength.

The nominees for the 2009 Christy Awards:

Contemporary Romance category:

Beyond the Night by Marlo Schalesky (WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group) Finding Stefanie by Susan May Warren (Tyndale House Publishers)
Zora and Nicky: A Novel in Black and White by Claudia Mair Burney (David C. Cook)

Rel: Wow - I have read all of these and you couldn't get a more diverse set of books so ably written by such amazing women. Do yourself a favour and check all three books out. I'm really interested to see who eventually takes away the prize!

Contemporary Series, Sequels & Novellas category:

Sisterchicks Go Brit! by Robin Jones Gunn (WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group)
Summer Snow by Nicole Baart (Tyndale House Publishers)
You Had Me at Good-bye by Tracey Bateman (FaithWords)

Rel: Summer Snow is brilliant so that would be my pick in this category. You Had Me at Goodbye is a fun read but I've never got into the Sisterchicks series - just not my cup of tea - hehehe!

Contemporary Standalone category:

Dogwood by Chris Fabry (Tyndale House Publishers)
Embrace Me by Lisa Samson (Thomas Nelson)
Tuesday Night at the Blue Moon by Debbie Fuller Thomas (Moody Publishers)

Rel:~ Only read Embrace Me in this category although I know Dogwood is excellent. Embrace Me is provocative, moving and vintage Lisa Samson!

First Novel category:

Blue Hole Back Home by Joy Jordan-Lake (David C. Cook)
Rain Song by Alice J. Wisler (Bethany House Publishers)
Safe at Home by Richard Doster (David C. Cook)

Rel: Yikes - haven't read any of these although Rain Song is in my TBR and I am very keen to get to it!

Historical category:

Shadow of Colossus by T.L. Higley (B&H Publishing Group)

Washington’s Lady by Nancy Moser (Bethany House Publishers)

Rel: LOVED Shadow of Colossus :) Lynn Austin is a fabulous writer and Until We Reach Home is another in my TBR I will get to soon.

Historical Romance category:

Calico Canyon by Mary Connealy (Barbour Publishers)
From a Distance by Tamera Alexander (Bethany House Publishers)
The Moon in the Mango Tree by Pamela Binnings Ewen (B&H Publishing Group)

Rel: My pick would be Tamera's From A Distance although my friend Tracy, who reviewed The Moon in the Mango Tree may beg to differ!! Calico Canyon is a fun read but I think I tend more towards a serious read to win.

Suspense category:

By Reason of Insanity by Randy Singer (Tyndale House Publishers)
The Rook by Steven James (Revell)
Winter Haven by Athol Dickson (Bethany House Publishers)

Rel: Hands down By Reason of Insanity although I can't say this with any integrity as I haven't read the other two - LOL! The Rook is one I am keen to read so I may waver on this one :)

Visionary category:

The Battle for Vast Dominion by George Bryan Polivka (Harvest House Publishers)
Shade by John B. Olson (B&H Publishing Group)
Vanish by Tom Pawlik (Tyndale House Publishers)

Rel: I'm cheering for John Olson's Shade here!! But again the other two are in my TBR so I reserve the right to change my mind...although don't hold your breath. John's Melchi is a unique and complex character.

Young Adult category are:

The Fruit of My Lipstick by Shelley Adina (FaithWords)
I Have Seen Him in the Watchfires by Cathy Gohlke (Moody Publishers)
On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness by Andrew Peterson (WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group)

Rel: I haven't read any of these although my daughter loved Andrew's book!

Word Gets Around by Lisa Wingate

Lauren Eldridge thought she'd wiped the dust of Daily, Texas, off her boots forever. Screenwriter Nate Heath thought he was out of second chances.

Life's never that predictable, though.

Cajoled by her father, Lauren is back in town helping train a skittish race horse set to star in a Hollywood film. But the handsome screenwriter gives her more trouble than the horse. And Nate is realizing there's a spark of magic in the project—and in the eyes of the girl who is so good with horses.

Daily, Texas, has a way of offering hope, healing, and a little romance just when folks need it most.

My take:~

I adored Word Gets Around! Beautifully written with captivating characters and a treasure trove of wit, fun and facing fears, Lisa Wingate has stamped herself as one of my must read authors. Lisa's chapters alternate between the voices of Lauren, a woman broken by tragedy and guilt and Nate, a writer yet to explore his full potential and hampered by a destructive friendship. This unique approach gives fabulous perspective and amplifies the enjoyment of this novel. Add in the wonderful characters that we grew to love in Talk of the Town, and you are assured of an enchanted afternoon in Daily, Texas. Word Gets Around is a refreshing and tender read from a consummate wordsmith.

Elisha's Bones by Don Hoesel

Dr Jack Hawthorne suffers a loss so great on an archaeological dig, he sequesters himself away teaching at Evanston University trying to forget his former career. Approached by billionaire Gordon Reese, to investigate a little known legend which could have the power to change history, Jack succumbs to curiosity and the lure of his repressed adventurous spirit.

Traversing the globe in search of clues, Jack discovers deadly forces will stop at nothing to keep him from discovering secrets hidden for millennia. With no choice but to seek the expertise of the woman he once loved and rejected, Jack risks all in his search for truth.

Elisha's Bones is a brilliantly satisfying adventure from debut novelist, Don Hoesel. Imbuing Jack with a dry wit and a self deprecating personality, Don has created one of the most fascinating characters I've had the pleasure to read. Spiritually conflicted and relationally challenged, Jack's interaction with his former fiancee, the fiery Esperanza, adds spice and intensity to the rapid fire action that doesn't let up as they travel over four continents. Nailing the balance between heart pounding danger, Jack's exceptional first person voice and the baffling lure of the unknown, Don has a sure fire hit on his hands. If you like Bronleewe's August Adams and the fast pacing of Liparulo's thrillers, you are going love Dr Jack Hawthorne and Elisha's Bones.

Character Spotlight ~ Miralee Ferrell's Alexia Travers & Justin Phillips

Today the spotlight shines on...................................Alexia Travers & Justin Phillips

Miralee Ferrell's addition to Summerside Press' new Love Finds You series has garned multiple five star reviews on CBD and Amazon. Don't miss your chance to sneak a look behind the scenes of this historical romance.

Over to you, Miralee:~

Brief physical description

Alexia Travers is tiny boned and slender, with long, wavy brown hair sprinkled with highlights. She doesn't like wearing dresses, but she's very modest when she does. She prefers wearing pants and casual shirts...it needs to be comfortable riding attire.

Justin has short, dark blond hair, dark brown eyes, wears cowboy hats, looks great in jeans, with wide shoulders and slender hips.

Actor/famous person

Jennifer Garner is a down to earth person with tomboy leanings, much like Alexia, and neither are flashy, flamboyant women. I could easily see the two being friends and maybe even taking a horseback ride together.

George Strait (when he was young) with his gorgeous, heart-stopping smile would be the perfect Justin if he had dark blond hair instead of dark brown. Justin has the same sweet spirit that you see in George, and they both look great on a horse!

Strengths and weaknesses

Alexia's strength is her wonderful, independent spirit that constantly drives her to succeed, and her ability to accept people for who they are, without judging. But her independence is also one of her weaknesses, as is so often the case. She has a hard time asking other's for help and balks when other people try to force her to fit into what they deem to be an acceptable mold. She doesn't understand why the women in town can't accept her for who she is, trousers and all...and accept that she might not care to be married even though she's twenty-three years old.

Justin's biggest strength is his love for his four-year-old son Toby, and his passionate desire for a family. His greatest weakness is not being able to forgive himself for what he sees as "the sins of his past". He worked hard to care for his wife, and after her death he blamed himself for not shouldering more of her problems.

Quirk (if any)

None that I can think of.

Your inspiration for the character

My inspiration for Alexia came from two places, with the primary one being my grown daughter, Marnee (Marnee & Swede pictured). She's a very independent, clear thinking young woman who was raised loving and riding horses, and worked one summer as a cowgirl on a ranch. Some of Alex's personality and character traits were my daughter's and some of the idea for Alex grew out of research on women in the old west running their own ranch. The primary one was Kittie Wilkins, an amazing woman who ran a highly successful horse ranch in the late 1800's.

Background to the story

It's 1877 and Alexia Travers is alone in the world. Her father has died unexpectedly, leaving her burdened with a heavily mortgaged horse ranch. Marrying one of the town's all-too-willing bachelors would offer an easy solution, but Alex has no interest in marriage. Instead, she dons men's trousers and rides the range, determined to make the ranch a success on her own.

But despite Alex's best efforts, everything seems to go wrong: ranch hands quit, horses are stolen, and her father's gold goes missing. Alex is at her wit's end when wrangler Justin Phillips arrives in Last Chance with his young son, looking for a job. But there seems to be more to Justin's story than he's willing to share. Will Alex ever be able to trust him? More importantly, will the independent woman finally learn to depend on God?

Thanks Miralee for this great look behind the scenes of your novel! Now I can't wait to delve into the story myself :)

CFBA Blog Tour of Michal by Jill Eileen Smith

This week, the

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

is introducing

Michal

Revell (March 1, 2009)

by

Jill Eileen Smith

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Jill Eileen Smith is the author of several articles, poems, and stories, and her unpublished novels have placed in five writing contests in the past five years. A children’s story, which she wrote for her church led her youngest son to faith in Christ several years ago; much like a gospel tract led her to the Lord at a similar age.

That story, “Seeking Treasureland,” is now available. Jill is a member of several online writing groups and helps promote fellow authors’ works through monthly interviews on the "Spotlight" page of her website. She, along with her husband and children, are active members in their local church. A stay-at-home mom, she homeschooled the couple’s three sons for twelve years through high school, seeing them go on to higher education.

In her spare time, Jill teaches piano, reads, does picture scrap-booking, and enjoys trying out new recipes, especially those that include dark chocolate. Jill and her family make their home in Southeastern Lower Michigan.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Can their epic search for true love survive a father's fury?
The daughter of King Saul, Michal lives a life of privilege--but one that is haunted by her father's unpredictable moods and competition from her beautiful older sister.

As a girl, Michal quickly falls for the handsome young harpist David. But soon after their romance begins, David must flee for his life, leaving Michal at her father's mercy in the prison that is King Saul's palace.

Will Michal ever be reunited with David? Or is she doomed to remain separated from him forever?

Against the backdrop of opulent palace life, raging war, and daring desert escapes, Jill Eileen Smith takes you on an emotional journey as Michal deals with love, loss, and personal transformation as the first wife of King David. Jill Eileen Smith has more than twenty years of writing experience, and her writing has gathered acclaim in several contests. Her research into the lives of David's wives has taken her from the Bible to Israel, and she particularly enjoys learning how women lived in Old Testament times.

Michal, go HERE

Rel:~ Another Biblical novel I can't wait to delve into! My review will be posted soon :)

Full Circle by Davis Bunn

Sometimes to find what matters, you have to back up and start again.

He’s a hotshot financial analyst who has lost it all. She’s a brokenhearted world traveler forced to come home and beg for money. His job hangs by a thread. Her dreams of making a difference in Africa are circling the drain.

It’s a spectacularly bad time for romance, even on the charming stone streets of an English university town. But sparks fly--and danger threatens--when these two wounded souls must work together to solve a mystery and right a wrong.

To find what they need, they may need to relearn everything they thought they knew about love.
My take:~
Full Circle is a slow paced, rather melancholy tale of two damaged souls struggling to move beyond the pain of their past. Character driven, Davis Bunn devotes significant time to developing Adam and Kayla's back stories and the emotional turmoil that shapes their attitudes and actions. The plot is intriguing rather than suspenseful but I remained invested in the outcome due to Davis' skill with the written word, the magnificent backdrop of Oxford and the political maneuverings of rival companies.

Getting to know DiAnn Mills

DiAnn Mills has been writing prolifically since she was first published just over ten years ago. Alongside her writing, DiAnn mentors other writers, champions those struggling in the Sudan and speaks at retreats and conferences.

DiAnn is a fascinating and talented woman and I'm so glad she is here to share with us!

Thanks DiAnn:~

If you could have chosen your own name, what would it be?

Harper Lee

Your first pet's name?

Laddie

Your best friend's name in primary (elementary) school?

June and Donna

I still keep in contact with June, but I have no idea where Donna is.

Did you have a special toy that went everywhere with you when you were young? Please describe.

It wouldn't have been a toy; it would have been a book.

If you could meet a famous person, who would it be?

Franklin Graham. I'd like to talk to him about growing up in the Graham household.

If you were stranded on a desert island what one object would you want with you?

Water bottle. I could fill it up when it was empty. J I'm so practical that I can hear the giggles from the readers.

What's your favourite ice cream flavour?

Vanilla. Are you surprised?

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

First a nurse. Then I realized I couldn't stand the sight of blood.

Then a journalist. I wanted to write newspaper stories.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Israel and Greece

Besides God, who has influenced you the most?

Tracie Peterson who is not only my friend but she mentored me as a writer.

My husband who has always believed and encouraged me.

What's your favourite book?

Actually I have two:

Memoirs of a London Doll

Little Women

These two books were my constant companions when I was a little girl. They helped me see that I wanted to write.

What part of your daily routine do you enjoy most?

Early mornings! I love my quiet times with God.

What's your favourite movie?

Gone with the Wind. Are you surprised?

Where's the most interesting place you have been?

Ireland. Loved it. Could live there.

What's your most fervent prayer?

That my life be an example of a godly woman.

What's the bravest thing you've ever done?

Went to Southern Sudan to research a novel. At the time I didn't have the sense to be afraid, but there were many people praying for me.

What gift have you received that you will always treasure?

The gift of touching people's hearts with the written word.

What is your favourite Bible verse (or "one" of your favourites) and what does it mean to you?

Jeremiah 20:9

But if I say, "I will not mention him
or speak any more in his name,"
his word is in my heart like a fire,

a fire shut up in my bones.
I am weary of holding it in;
indeed, I cannot.

What was your most embarrassing moment in High School?

Since I was incredibly shy . . . it's hard to say. I think it was when I realized a girl, whom I thought was my best friend, had used me to get to a guy she liked. Every one knew it but me.

How did your husband propose to you?

Actually, I had just made vegetable soup, and when I asked him if he'd like for me to get him a bowl, he said “I'd rather you marry me.”

Now, the story-book wedding was something out of a romance novel. The skinny on that is I thought he left me standing at the altar, when he'd purchased a home and arranged to have the ceremony there. It was fabulous.

What was the best advice you received on marriage before you were married?

Don't let the sun go down on your anger.

Please share a little about your passion for the Sudan and its people.

In 2002, I was asked by a member of the AidSudan.org to write a nonfiction book about the Lost Boys of Sudan. I declined and even gave them names of Christian writers who could do a fine job in telling the boys' story. But eventually God won out, and I wrote the book. That is when my passion began for the Sudanese people.

I interviewed hundreds of Lost Boys from all over the world and those who worked with them. Some could not tell their stories because their memories were too painful. Imagine having your family killed and your home destroyed and you are approximately nine years old.

The proceeds from the nonfiction book are given to Aid Sudan in their fabulous work. Then I had an idea for a fiction novel using the research from the nonfiction title. Those proceeds are also given to Aid Sudan. After two years, I had an idea for a second novel using the same characters as the first. This time I had the opportunity to visit Southern Sudan to see for myself what was going on in that war-torn country. I still am very close to those who helped make the books possible.

Their titles are:

Lost Boy No More

When the Lion Roars

When the Nile Runs Red.

Breach of Trust

What attracts you to romantic suspense?

I think I'm a bit of a daredevil at heart. I like an adventure and the twist and turns of a suspense novel. Also, the unlikely characters in a suspense who fall in love are a bonus to the story. J

What is your view on whether a Christian can live the life of a CIA agent with integrity?

I believe that many of us are called to careers that we don't understand or may not see God. Integrity is the fabric of every Christian, and yes it can be done as a CIA operative.

Do you share Miles' passion for American football?

I had sons who played Texas high school football. We lived it. J

What do you hope readers take away from this story?

As stated above, God calls us to unlikely roles in our walk with Him.

Breach of Security is the next book in the Call of Duty series. A sneak peek, please!

I just whisked this off to my editor. Danika Morales is a Border Patrol Agent who is dedicated to her job. But she is also dedicated to finding who murdered her husband. I've also shown the reality of those involved in guarding our borders woven with the motivations of why so many risk everything to enter the US.

What is in your writing pipeline?

I'm doing the final edits for A Woman Called Sage. This is a historical novel set in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, and the heroine is a bounty hunter who discovers she has become the hunted.

I'm in the plotting stage for the third book in the Call of Duty series. My heroine is an FBI agent sent to investigate a series of murders in West Texas. It involves the legendary Spider Rock Treasure, and that's all I'm saying. J

And I'm in the thinking stage of another historical set in the Colorado Rockies. Probably a sequel to A Woman Called Sage using a character from that novel.

Thanks so much, DiAnn for taking the time to share with us :) Can't wait to get my hands on the remaining books in your Call of Duty series.

Daisy Chain by Mary DeMuth ~ Tracy's Take

What is it about?

Thirteen year old Daisy Chance and fourteen year old Jed Pepper are the best of friends. They have explored the length and breadth of Defiance, Texas. The run down old Crooked Creek Church building is their favourite place to spend time whiling away summer days and after school hours.

Daisy’s sudden disappearance sets Jed’s world spiralling into desperation and despair over what has happened to his best friend. His guilt over not walking Daisy home that night drives his desire to find Daisy.

Meanwhile Jed’s own family is slowly imploding. Jed’s mother Ouisie carries a load of guilt for her husband, Hap’s raging temper and abuse. Jed and his little sister Sissy try their best not to enrage their preacher father. It is only through his friends Hixon and Bald Muriel that Jed is able to begin to be at peace, despite the tragedy and dysfunction of his young life.

What I thought:

‘Daisy Chain’ is the powerful, haunting tale of a young boy’s coming of age. Jed’s desire to be strong enough to stand up to his father is heartbreakingly bittersweet. His love for his mother and sister and their wellbeing sparks the rage growing in his heart against his father. It is through quirky characters like Hixon and Bald Muriel that Jed learns to forgive. Each, in their own way, encourage him to see that his heart is full of goodness, rather than the unpredictable rage that fills his father. They show him that God is a powerful, prayer-answering God and not like Hap at all.

Mary DeMuth shows her literary craftsmanship in ‘Daisy Chain’. She pulls the reader on through the story with her strong character-driven plot. As the novel progresses it becomes more and more difficult to put the book down, such is the strength of the mystery woven in with the development of each character. While ‘Daisy Chain’ seems filled with despair, hope is artfully woven between the pages, showing that even in the darkest times of our lives God offers us hope and strong arms to carry us through.

My one disappointment was that the mystery of Daisy’s disappearance is only partially resolved. Perhaps this is because a fourteen year old boy would not be privy to the full extent of such details. Despite this, ‘Daisy Chain’ is a gritty, powerful and thought provoking read that deserves a place on every discerning reader’s bookshelf.

Guest reviewer:~ my friend Tracy from Beyond My Picket Fence

*Possible spoiler alert if you haven't read Daisy Chain*

Tracy ~ the sequel might solve your disappointment!

Here's the synopsis for A Slow Burn, releasing September, 2009 from Zondervan

Burying her grief, Emory Chance is determined to find her daughter Daisy’s murderer—a man she saw in a flicker of a vision. But when the investigation hits every dead end, her despair escalates. Not even the kindness of her persistent suitor Hixon can soften her heart towards the community of friends that long for her healing. And as the questions surrounding Daisy continue to mount, and Emory’s safety is shattered by the tattooed man’s dark pursuit, she can’t shake the sickening fear that her own choices contributed to Daisy’s disappearance. Will she ever experience the peace her heart longs for?

A gripping suspense novel, A Slow Burn is about courageous love, the burden of regret, and the bonds that never break. It is about the beauty and pain of telling the truth and letting God take over. Most of all, it is about the strength of forgiveness and what remains when shame no longer has power. Mary DeMuth’s distinctive new voice in Christian fiction will keep readers enthralled as they ask soul-searching questions in this second book of the Defiance, Texas Trilogy.

Character Spotlight ~ TL Higley's Hemiuni, Grand Vizier

Today the spotlight shines on............................................................Hemiunu

Tracy Higley's Seven Wonders Novels have me totally enthralled! With fascinating historical detail and intricate characterisation, Tracy weaves stories of intrigue and romance around history's most amazing engineering and architectural achievements.

I love her character, Hemi and am delighted to share Tracy's insight into the man who is both engineer and musician.

Over to you, Tracy:~

Brief physical description

Hemi is a muscular ancient Egyptian. He is clean-shaven (including his head!) as most men of the era. He is too busy to concern himself with the jewelry and makeup that many men use, however.

Think Yul Brynner in The Ten Commandments.

Strengths and weaknesses

Hemi is an engineer, and he’s all about precision, order, and productivity. When a series of murders interferes with his life’s work of building the Great Pyramid, he has no choice but to track down the killer. Along the way, his rigid way of life gets challenged by some free-thinking and free-spirited people with strange beliefs about God.

Quirk (if any)

Hemi is almost obsessive about having things in order. Everything is about math, angles, and order with him. But he has this hidden part of himself that he doesn’t let people see – the musician. In private, he lets himself get carried away by his music.

Your inspiration for the character.

I think Hemi came from a place within myself, actually. I have always struggled with placing relationships as a higher priority than projects and tasks. The choices that Hemi faces are ones that I have had to deal with as well, and an area where I feel God is still teaching me much about how to fulfill his purpose for my life without making that purpose my reason for living.

Background to the story

In the blistering desert sands, tens of thousands toil to raise the Great Pyramid of Giza. Hemiunu, the pyramid's meticulous architect, is consumed by the massive project and his allegiance to his cousin Khufu, Pharaoh of Egypt. But when a sadistic killer known as Anubis begins preying upon Hemi's closest friends, a dark secret tangled in love and mystery threatens to stir up a past Hemi cannot forget and uncover a secret he can no longer deny - a secret that may well destroy an entire kingdom.

Thanks so much, Tracy ~ have a wonderful time as you undertake your research trip to Egypt, Jordan and Israel this month ~ so wish I was going with you!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Paige Rogers survived every CIA operative’s worst nightmare.

A covert mission gone terribly wrong.

A betrayal by the one man she thought she could trust.

Forced to disappear to protect the lives of her loved ones, Paige has spent the last several years building a quiet life as a small-town librarian. But the day a stranger comes to town and starts asking questions, Paige knows her careful existence has been shattered.

He is coming after her again. And this time, he intends to silence her for good...

Paige Rogers is a former CIA agent who lost all she treasured seven years ago when her entire team was killed in a covert mission. She blames their leader—Daniel Keary—whom Paige believes betrayed them. Disillusioned and afraid for her life, she disappeared and started a new life as a librarian in small town Split Creek, Oklahoma.

But her growing relationship with high school football coach Miles Laird and the political ambitions of her former boss threaten to unmask her. When Keary announces his candidacy for governor of her state, he comes after Paige to ensure that she won't ruin his bid for office by revealing his past misdeeds. He threatens everything she holds dear, and Paige must choose between the life of hiding that has become her refuge . . . or risking everything in one last, desperate attempt to right old wrongs.
