Like Mitford and Lake Wobegon before that, Bloomfield is a place we could all call home. Here, the residents enjoy a splash fountain in the town square, dine at the “Fancy Schmantsy” on tree-lined Main Street, and dream of reaching the 10,000 population mark -- only 22 more folks to go!

The Bloomfield Garden Club, an all-ages group of lovable oddballs that will stop at nothing to make everything beautiful, maintains this piece of heaven on earth. But even such idyllic places as this have their share of dramatic characters and stories to be told.

Take, for instance, craft store owner Amber Weathersby. She wants to be a member of the garden club but has never received the blessing of a green thumb. Her friend, Stan the mechanic, has helped as much as he can -- even adding a timed sprinkler system to Amber’s garden -- but the results never live up to the club’s expectations.

Her only claim to fame with that gang is her semi-famous garden gnome, Gnorman, who gets to hold the prized trophy each year in the Bloomfield Spring Fling contest’s winning garden.

But this year, instead of being the life of the party, her little star is gnomegnapped, and worse, the club’s irreplaceable trophy has gone missing with him. While Amber is chasing the gnome around town trying to win the trophy, Stan is chasing Amber, trying to win her heart.

Coming mid 2012 from B&H Publishing

Check out these new titles releasing from B&H Fiction, mid next year.
Love the cover of Hide and Seek and can't wait to read it!  Jamie and Pamela are favourite authors of mine, too.  Not keen on Kim and Mindy's cover unfortunately :(
How about you?

Juliette Taylor walked away from her career as a supermodel twenty-five years ago. Now approaching fifty – an emotionally complex milestone -- she co-owns a beauty supply company that makes skincare products for salons and spas. Her niche is pampering Christian women who usually spend more time caring for others than for themselves under the slogan:

Isn’t it time someone took care of YOU for a change?

When Juliette arrives at the Palm Grotto Spa to host a spiritual retreat, she runs into an old modeling colleague, Raven, who had always been disliked in the industry for many reasons. She isn’t there for the retreat; in fact, her presence at the spa is somewhat mysterious.

Not long after Raven makes a cryptic threat to Juliette, the unsympathetic back-then beauty is found dead, poisoned by something in the green clay of a chai soy wrap. The following morning, a banner for the retreat has been unceremoniously altered:

It’s your turn to be nurtured, to be restored . . . to be murdered.

Suspicion is directed at Juliette who has history with Raven and certainly knows how to use beauty products. But for murder?! Now she must find the real killer before the police really take care of her.

Jeanne, a Christian woman, makes it clear she won’t stay with a man who is not her husband. But both are desperate for work, so they agree to keep their distance as Clint occupies the lower deck and Jeanne takes the captain’s quarters.

As they restore the Helena Rose, the slowly softening Clint becomes attracted to Jeanne -- who is now being courted by a wealthy plantation owner. With her family and future at stake, the desires of Jeanne’s heart are duly complex. Only her simple faith can navigate her through what’s about to happen.

At 8:47 A.M. on Wednesday, October 12, 1977, new-to-town businessman Bingham Murdock flew his small plane into New Orleans, banking it in such a way that a ray of sunshine shot through the city at light speed.

Amalise Catoir saw the flash from her sixteenth floor law office window. Finally feeling alive after the death of her abusive husband, she imagined seeing the plane was a fate for her eyes only; a special connection between the unknown giver and she, the recipient of light. But someone else saw it, a six-year-old Cambodian refugee in foster care for whom a sudden burst of brightness reminds him of artillery fire.

Destined to cross paths with the man and the child, Amalise doesn’t yet know the deeper spiritual lesson she will learn: that we are responsible not only for the things we do, but also for the things that we don’t.

Character Spotlight ~ Jamie Carie's Dorian Colburn & Kendra Townsend

Character Spotlight ~
Dorian Colburn & Kendra Townsend

Jamie Carie's latest historical romance introduces an English beauty and an American rogue!

Over to you, Jamie:~

Brief physical description

English rose Lady Kendra Townsend has blond hair and violet eyes. She is a wee bit on the short side and that is why she prefers big hats – they make her feel taller!

Dorian Colburn is a swashbuckling American sea captain. Tan and wide shouldered from all that time on board his ship. He’s very swoon worthy.

Actor/famous person

I picture Kendra to look a bit like Jamie King. Same violet eyes and blond hair. Very sweet natured and pretty.

Here’s the cover model for Kendra in one of her big hats!

Dorian looks very piratey. :)

Strengths and weaknesses

Kendra’s strength is her sunny disposition and her reliance on God both in good times and bad. She reminds herself of the fruits of the Spirit whenever the occasion calls for it. Her aunt (who she lives with) is being mean and nasty to her – patience, long-suffering! Dorian finally kisses her – joy! It’s a theme that runs throughout the book and has encouraged me to think actively about the fruit of the Spirit and try to act accordingly through my day.

Kendra’s weakness is her strong attraction to Dorian. He really tests her “goodness” and makes her feel all sorts of emotions she has never had to deal with before.

Dorian’s strength is his steadfast nature and loyalty. His weakness is his guardedness. He stubbornly protects his heart instead of letting love in – both God’s and Kendra’s love.

Quirk (if any)

Kendra’s passion for hats is a bit of a quirk. She goes to great lengths to get them how she wants them (beribboned, bejewelled, be-birded – lol). Dorian thinks they are ridiculously endearing.

Your inspiration for the character

These two really came alive when they first met. The sparks fly and the attraction they feel for one another simmers underneath all their words. If you like true romances where the characters and their love story are central to the plot, this is the one for you. :)

Background to the story

When her doting father dies, Lady Kendra Townsend is given a choice - marry the horrid man of her uncle's choosing or risk a new life in America with unknown relatives. Armed with the faith that God has a plan for her she boards a cargo ship and meets American sea captain, Dorian Colburn. But the captain has been wounded by a woman before and guards his independent life. He doesn't need an English heiress who makes him feel again and asks probing questions about his faith, or so he thinks. It is not until he must save her from the dark forces around her that he decides she just may be worth the risk.

Thanks Jamie!  Love having you visit here :)

The Guardian Duke by Jamie Carie

The Guardian Duke is award-winning novelist Jamie Carie’s most exciting story yet, a uniquely arranged Regency-era romantic adventure where hero and heroine know each other through written letters but have yet to meet.

Gabriel, the Duke of St. Easton, is ordered by the King to take guardianship over Lady Alexandria Featherstone whose parents are presumed dead after failing to return from a high profile treasure hunt. But Alexandria ignores this royal reassignment, believing her parents are still alive and duly following clues that may lead to their whereabouts. Gabriel, pressured by what are actually the King’s ulterior motives, pursues her across windswept England and the rolling green hills of Ireland but is always one step behind.

When they do meet, the search for earthly treasure will pale in comparison to what God has planned for both of them.

Character Spotlight ~ Jamie Carie's Buck Lewis & Ellen Pierce

Buck & Ellen

Jamie Carie is one of my favourite historical authors and this novella highlights her talent and makes a perfect Christmas read. Enjoy this insight into Buck & Ellen.

Over to you, Jamie:~

Brief physical description

Ellen - Tall and willowy, on the frailer side. Very pretty with dark hair and eyes.

Buck - Strong and capable of taking care of others (makes it look effortless). Blondish brown hair and crystal blue eyes (like icicles).

Actor/famous person

Ellen - Katharine McPhee. I think she is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen!

Buck - I picture him a cross between Daniel Craig and Chace Crawford. Somewhere in between in age with Chace's striking blue eyes.

Rel:~ I made a morph of Daniel & Chace! What do you think?!

Strengths and weaknesses

Ellen - She is the quiet, inner strength type. Silent in suffering. Holds it together no matter what. Serious natured. She becomes used to depending on herself and leaves God behind when He doesn't seem to be there for her. Afraid to trust but craves love.

Buck - Physically and spiritually strong. A natural leader. Men idolize him, it seems he can accomplish anything. Strong relationship with God at the core of everything he does. When his wife gets shot he feels he failed to protect her and is at a loss how to heal and move on. Expects a lot of himself and is something of a perfectionist.

Quirk (if any)

I'm not sure that this is a quirk as much as it is survival for Ellen, but she is good at maintaining her brother's imaginary world where he feels safe and in control. She lives between shades of truth and deceit and this feels normal to her. It comes as a shock when she gets to know Buck and discovers someone who "says the truth out loud." It's the beginning of her healing in many ways.

Your inspiration
for the character

Ellen is someone who has had to put her own life - her dreams and desires - on hold to take care of someone else. I think a lot women can relate to this in some degree. She has a God-given inner strength that other people use for their own survival. I found her heart breaking and real. As the story progressed I wanted her to have her dreams come true and her dreams were so basic to women - to have a man to love and be loved back and a family of her own. God put those desires in her and He had a plan to grant her the desires of her heart. But she has to learn to trust Him again first. Matthew 6:33 "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." (KJV)

Background to the story

Back when I wrote my first book, Snow Angel, I decided to try my hand at a short story also set in Alaska. I was reading so much about the gold rush and inspired by writers like Jack London that I wanted to give this format a try. Fast forward to last winter. My editor asked me about writing a Christmas novella and I remembered the short story (for some reason snow and Christmas and Alaska go together for me! J). I sent it to her and she loved it. It took about four months to add enough to it to make it a novella. It was my first try at that length of story but I think it turned out pretty well! I hope people are blessed by it.

Jamie ~ it is so good to have you back here :) Thanks for sharing about Buck & Ellen.

The Snowflake by Jamie Carie with giveaways

Synopsis:~

In the wilds of the Alaskan gold rush, 1897, Ellen Pierce discovers a man she didn't know existed and a renewed dependence on God in a place called loneliness. She'd lost everything-family, her closeness with God, her heart.until the crystal blue eyes of a leader of men stepped up and asked her one question. Will she join the trek to Dawson or stay the winter on an ice-locked steamship full of strangers?

Buck Lewis is folk lore in the flesh, but his heart has been rendered asunder. In the land of snowflakes two roads converge. Will he choose the road less traveled?

My take:~

Known for her intense historical romances, Jamie Carie returns with her first novella, The Snowflake, a Christmas story you will not want to miss. With the wild frontier of Alaska as much a character of the book as Ellen Pierce and Buck Lewis, Jamie Carie creates an atmosphere that swirls with snow, danger, heartbreak and redemption. Battling the harsh elements and an attraction tainted by Buck’s tragic past, Ellen fights for survival and for Buck’s heart. Skilfully drawing her characters, the wild landscape and Dawson City, Jamie has once again created an intriguing tale of adventure, passion and perseverance against a backdrop of adversity and a journey of spiritual renewal. For anyone who collects Christmas stories or loves a moving romance, The Snowflake is a must have book of the season!

Facelift by
Leanna Ellis

Kaye Redmond stages houses for resale, so masking trouble spots with strategic decor comes naturally. She does it in her personal life as well-her can-do attitude and ready smile disguising
the emotional wear-and-tear of a failed marriage and raising a teenage daughter alone. But when her former mother-in-law comes back around, desperate for a place to stay while recovering from a botched facelift, Kaye begins to realize there's a much more authentic way to brighten one's countenance: look to God and His plan for her life.

ward Dawson City. Buck is determined to leave behind a heartbreaking past. No amount of ice or weather will stop him. But he never counted on a woman joining a dangerous wilderness trek-or on falling in love with her.

In her first novella, award-winning author Jamie Carie couples soul-deep romance with epic adventure to give a joyful reminder of a redeeming God who makes us each unique, yet loves us all the same.

Character Spotlight ~ Jamie Carie's Emma Montclaire & Luke Bowen

Today the spotlight shines on Luke Bowen & Emma Montclaire
If you are looking for exceptional historical fiction, look no further than Jamie Carie and her amazing novels, Snow Angel, The Duchess & the Dragon, Wind Dancer and Love's First Light. Her latest, Angel's Den, is moving, emotive and enthralling. Enjoy this peek behind her characters, Luke and Emma.

Over to you, Jamie:~

Brief physical description

Emma - Blond and blue eyed. I picture her to look a little like Scarlett Johanson but not as curvy. She lost weight after her marriage and is thin and willowy, like a Nicole Kidman.

Luke - Hunky in the farmer kind of way J. Once again, I'm leaning toward a Hugh Jackman type (boy, I'm really obsessed with him, aren't I? Lol). Who is a younger Hugh?

This picture looks a lot like them, though!

Strengths and weaknesses

Emma - Her weakness is her naivety and trusting nature. She sees the good in people but her husband isn't good at all. Her strength is an inner core, deep down strength to endure that she didn't even know she possessed until she had to tap into it. It's that very strength that Eric (her husband) saw in her and why he married her. Here's a woman who could take his pain onto herself which allows him to feel safe and empowered.

Luke - Luke is a man of God and a man of action. He struggles with trusting God and God's timing through trials. His strength is that even though he struggles, he has a deeply rooted faith and does the right thing in the end - it just takes him some time and wrestling to get there.

Quirk (if any)

Luke is a bit picky about his cartography equipment and artist's tools. At one point in the story a young man on the expedition pesters him with lots of questions about the workings of an octant. Luke curbs his irritation and patiently explains it but he wishes he could just do the job alone. A bit of a perfectionist, I'd say. J

Your inspiration for the character

I don't know that I had an initial inspiration for these two characters, but the inspiration for the story came from that movie - Sleeping With the Enemy with Julia Roberts. I LOVE that movie! So suspenseful and creepy!

Background to the story

When Emma Montclaire said 'I do' she thought she was beginning her fairy tale life. But it didn’t take her new husband, the famed most handsome man west of the Appalachians, long to disabuse her of any fantasies. As the abuse escalates and turns physical, Emma seeks a way out.

Luke Bowen has been stuck in a job that he has no liking for when a letter comes with the opportunity of a lifetime - follow the Corps of Discovery's blazing path to the Pacific as a cartographer. What he doesn't know is that there will be a woman on the expedition, a woman who desperately needs his help. The challenge to follow God's rescue plan and not their own will be daunting - requiring faith and trust and long suffering when it looks like God has abandoned them. But the God who made them knows them and all they can endure. His plan of rescue unfolds in a way neither of them could have imagined.
