Synopsis:~
Border Patrol Agent Danika Morales has sworn to protect the southern borders of our nation, but that oath has cost her. Two years ago, her husband, Toby, was killed trying to help the very immigrants Danika was responsible for sending back to Mexico. His murder was never solved. But now, a recent string of attacks and arrests leads her to believe that someone in McAllen is profiting from sneaking undocumented immigrants into the country . . . and it may somehow be tied to Toby’s death.
My take:~
DiAnn Mills returns to her Call of Duty series with an intriguing look at the Texas Border Patrol from both sides of the fence. Complexities abound in what is both a character driven and issue focussed story which DiAnn pulls off well. Exposing the moral and ethical dilemmas faced by governments, Border Control agents and activists, Sworn to Protect, is a fascinating read. The suspense and conflict drive the plot while the romance slowly unfolds behind the scenes. The heartache of a dysfunctional family and the damaging impact of unresolved grief and bitterness permeate the tale resulting in a substantial and thought provoking read. Breach of Trust remains my favourite of this series but I know the final story, Pursuit of Justice, will challenge it's spot just as Sworn to Protect has done!
