Shadow in Serenity by Terri Blackstock

Synopsis:~

Carny Sullivan grew up in the zany world of a traveling carnival. Quaint and peaceful Serenity, Texas, has given her a home, a life, and a child. Logan Brisco is the smoothest, slickest, handsomest man Serenity, Texas has ever seen. But Carny Sullivan knows a con artist when she sees one---and she's seen plenty, starting with her father. As far as Carny Sullivan can tell, she's the only one in town who has his number. Because from his Italian shoes to his movie-actor smile, Logan has the rest of the town snowed. Carny is determined to reveal Brisco's selfish intentions before his promise to the townspeople for a cut in a giant amusement park sucks Serenity dry. Yet, as much as she hates his winning ways, there is a man behind that suave smile, a man who may win her heart against her will.

My take:~

Terri Blackstock's latest release, Shadow in Serenity, was originally written back in the 1990s for the general market. Revised and updated for a new audience, Terri doesn't disappoint with an enthralling, character driven story, and while quite different to her trademark suspense, it is a compelling read. It is a testament to Terri's talent that she can create a character like Brisco, ruthless and deceitful, yet  vulnerable when his heart is reached by a community eager to welcome him into their lives.  Carny is a unique character who has experienced forgiveness from a shameful past and I enjoyed her feisty and protective nature.  Terri keeps the reader guessing as to the outcome despite Brisco's intentions being clear throughout the story.  Shadow in Serenity is an excellent story with a redemptive message that is not forced.  Be prepared for something a little different from what you might expect from Terri but don't miss this tale.
