Character Spotlight ~ Jamie Carie's Isabelle Renoir

Today the spotlight shines on.......................................................Isabelle Renoir

Jamie Carie's latest novel, Wind Dancer, tells of Isabelle Renoir's capture by Shawnee Indians and her fight to survive. A unique and passionate woman, Isabelle is a character who will remain with you long after the last page is turned. Enjoy reading Jamie's thoughts on Isabelle below:~

Brief physical description
:

There is a wildness and determination to Isabelle that I think Debra Sievers captured in this painting. I can just see Isabelle dancing in the forest, completely free (as this human body can get) worshipping God.

I think Rel and I have talked about Samuel already! Hunky blond like Sawyer on Lost, but if I recall, she had a few ideas too. LOL!

Rel:~
Matthew McConaghey could pull off Samuel, don't you think? He's got the smile!

Strengths and weaknesses:

Hold on to your hats, boys and girls, because I’ve never seen such a strong character as Isabelle turned out to be (Praise God!). She’s one of those people who really knows herself, knows her strengths and stays true to them no matter what anyone else thinks and even against the constraints of the culture at that time. But when a person is that strong they often don’t have a sense of how badly they need God. So, (wow, I’m gonna cry n
ow just thinking about all she goes through) God allows her to be put through the fire, and I mean a horrendous time of testing. He seems to have abandoned her as she becomes completely broken.

I’ve seen God bring beauty from ashes in people’s lives, but the new strength that Isabelle has after her tribulation is like this shining thing that makes her glow with the glory of God coming from the inside out. When God says in Genesis that he made man in his own image, I think each of us was created (every person ever to be conceived in all of time) in our spirit form, like God thought us all up and spoke us out as a whole creation when he made Adam and Eve. When we are born, sin and our enemy, Satan, immediately comes in to try and steal away our created self. It’s only through Jesus, and our belief in His blood that covers that sin, that we can begin the process of getting back to that being that we’ll be in heaven for all eternity. Isabelle starts out strong, but God makes her even closer to that created self that will bring Him glory forever and ever.

Quirk (if an
y):

No real quirks that I can think of.

Your inspiration for the character:

I’m not sure about this, to be honest. This was the hardest book I’ve ever written. Each time I sat down at the keyboard I prayed God would pour the story through me and there were lots of rewrites when too much of me was getting in the way of Him. I guess that means the Holy Spirit was my inspiration!

Jamie - I love your insight - thanks for sharing with us again :) Looking forward to posting your spotlight on Scarlett and Christophe from Love's First Light, releasing later in 2009.

On Thursday, I will be spotlighting MaryLu Tyndall's Dajon and Faith from her newest release, The Red Siren. Want to see how MaryLu pictures her first female pirate ~ not quite what the cover portrays!
