A Passion Denied by Julie Lessman

Synopsis:~

Young Elizabeth O'Connor is the little sister John Brady always longed for. But she wants much more than that from her spiritual mentor. As she blossoms into a beautiful young woman intent on loving John, he must push back the very real attraction he feels for her. His past just won't let him go there. Unfortunately, Lizzie won't let him go anywhere else--until she discovers he is not all that he seems.

Can true love survive such revelations?

My take:~

A Passion Denied is vintage Julie Lessman ~ passion and faith in equal measure. Julie's characterisation is critical to the success of her stories and she once again portrays realistic people struggling with emotions and weaknesses often disregarded in this genre. Brady and Lizzie's personalities blossom as their relationship starts to change from that of mentor and young girl to a man and woman battling their hearts' desires and their minds' doubts. Collin and Faith, Mitch and Charity and Patrick and Marcy all feature with their own spiritual and relational issues, increasing the engaging nature of the book. I love how Julie doesn't turn her characters, Charity in particular, into little angels once they commit to God, but with their foibles still present alongside God's abundant grace. Brilliantly done, Julie! And by the way, the sneak peek at Katie's story will have you longing for mid 2010!
